This is a fulldome film exploring the world of ancient Chinese constellations. Ancient Chinese cosmic outlook emphasized ‘the unity of heaven and humanity’, which led them to believe that everything in the starry sky is closely connected to everything on earth. Thus, they mapped all the people, events, and objects on Earth one by one onto the starry sky, so that the sky also came to have palaces, cities, emperors, ministers, mountains, fields, markets, and barracks, and so on. This mysterious ‘kingdom’ in the stars is composed of unique Chinese constellations. Ancient Chinese astronomers divided the sky into the Three Enclosures and Twenty-Eight Mansions. The Milky Way flows alongside the ‘enclosure walls’, while the sun, moon, and five planets move along the ecliptic. In this film, we will witness together how ancient Chinese people interpreted the starry sky and how they added a rich variety of scenes to this celestial painting.
